Canterbury City Council (CCC) is currently conducting its Local Plan Review Regulation 19 consultation. This is the final consultation before their proposed Plan is submitted to the Government’s independent Planning Inspector for examination. The consultation started on 23 March and and finishes at 5pm on 18 May. This final consultation is very specific in its ask: It is seeking ‘representations’ on soundness and legal compliance of the proposed plan as required by the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF).
Save Wincheap Orchards & Fields will be submitting an official response for our campaign. However, we need as many residents as possible to submit individual responses to demonstrate the weight of public opinion against this plan. This is your last chance to have a say as a member of the public. Make your voice count - this is not a done deal.
Here we have put together a guide to help you when contacting the Council.
We have written our own guides on how to respond - a document highlighting our key arguments with some references to the NPPF, and a short guide on how to write a response. These arguments include issues such as Access, Landscape Impact, Traffic, Pollution and Biodiversity.
Read the council's webpage on the consultation which has information on how to respond.
It is important that your representation specifically mentions whether you consider the proposed Local Plan to be found "sound" and/or "legally compliant." Please see the council's Guidance notes.
Try not to make your response too personal. At this point the inspector will ONLY consider arguments about the soundness and legal compliance of the plan.
Do NOT cut and paste from other people's arguments. Please re-write anything in your own words as much as possible. The council may disregard responses it considers duplkcates.
Some of our arguments apply to the plan as a whole, and some specifically to Policy C10 (Merton Park).
Feel free to write as many arguments as you like. However, you may find it easier to pick ONE issue that you are particularly concerned with or find it easiest to write about (e.g. Increased Pollution)
Please do encourage others to respond.
We are organising a workshop where we can offer advice on how to respond.
When ready, you can respond in ONE of THREE ways:
